Gift Games – Have Fun Giving your Christmas Gifts!

To help you host a great Christmas or New Year’s Eve party, we recommend a few fun gift games. No need to worry, the rules are pretty easy to follow. You just go from step 1 to step 2, from step 2 to step 3, from step 3 to step 4…

Have fun!

Game 1 – Third Time’s the CharmNumber of gifts = number of participants. Ask everyone to bring a gift.

  1. Put on some Christmas music.
  2. Have everyone sit in a circle.
  3. Put all the gifts in the centre of the circle.
  4. Write numbers on separate pieces of paper, depending on the number of people participating. (For
instance, if 10 people are participating, you write down the numbers from 1 to 10).
  5. Fold the papers with the numbers and put them in a bowl.
  6. Let every participant draw a number.
  7. The person with number 1 can be the first to pick a gift, but cannot yet open it.
  8. Next up is the person with number 2: this person is also allowed to pick the gift from the first person,
in which case this person needs to make another selection from the gift pile.
  9. Each present can only change hands 3 times (Third Time’s the Charm - As a party host, you try to keep
     track).
  10. When everyone has a gift, all the gifts can be opened.

Game 2 – Two Peas in a Pod

Number of gifts = number of participants. Ask everyone to bring a gift.

Before the party starts, collect a number of random objects in a plastic bag that isn’t see-through.

  1. Put on some holiday or festive music.
  2. Write numbers on separate pieces of paper, depending on the number of people participating. (For
instance, if 10 people are participating, you write down the numbers from 1 to 10).
  3. Have each participant draw a number and put people with following numbers into pairs (1 and 2belong together, 3 and 4 go and sit next to each other etc.).
  4. Ask the first two people to give each other the gift they’ve brought and have them sit with their backs
    against one another.
  5. Any one of the other participants takes an object out of the bag you’ve prepared and shows it to only
    one of the two players.
  6. The person who sees the object has to describe it to his team member.
  7. As soon as the team member can guess what the object is, he/she is allowed to open his/her gift
  8. Then this person has to describe an object until the second member of the team can guess what it is.
  9. The game continues until every person has played.
Game 3 – Don’t Forget the Oven Mitts!

Number of gifts: 1

Number of participants: EVERYONE!

  1. Buy a present that would make anyone (young or old, man or woman) happy.
  2. Wrap it several times (i.e., use several layers of wrapping paper) and make sure that you use enough
     tape.
  3. Select a Christmas song that you can pause during the game.
  4. Decide who starts and give this person a set of oven mitts.
  5. Turn on the music and hand the gift to that person, who must try to open it while wearing the oven
     mitts.
  6. Pause the Christmas song after 15 seconds.
If the person with the oven mitts has not yet succeeded in opening the gift (i.e., remove all layers of
wrapping paper) then the gift, together with the oven mitts, goes to the next person, and the
Christmas song continues for another 15 seconds.
  7. The person who manages to remove the last layer of wrapping paper can keep the gift.
